This page was originally a short list of my favourite ICT4D links (in the late-2000s). This slightly updated version now serves as a list of those that are still some of my “go to” places to keep updated on digital tech and development (listed in alphabetical order).

- The Association for Progressive Communications
- Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation which used to have great ICT data on Commonwealth countries as well as links for priority areas such as ICTs and disability. I still host some of the disability material at Disabilities and ICT4D.
- The Communication Initiative – after 28 years it has shifted ton being hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand
- The Development Gateway – very much changed from its initial incarnation but still interesting
- Digital Development on Twitter
- ICT4D Group on Facebook (which now has 5.8k. members – do join us!)
- ICTworks – a frequently updated site published by Wayan Vota – often with controversial ideas
- IDRC was one of the most important funders and supported excellent work in ICT4D. It no longer has digital tech as a priority area, but the site still includes some useful material.
- The International Telecommunications Union
- Ismael Peña-López’s ICTlogy – this was one of the most comprehensive early sites on digital tech and society – maintained by someone who crosses boundaries between academia and government.
- infoDev – in the early days funded much good research on digital tech and development
- SPIDER: an independent centre of enablement based at the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences at Stockholm University. SPIDER has done great work in the past supporting a global community of postgraduate researchers.
- UNCTAD Information Economy Report
- UNESCO’s Communication and Information Sector – I have had many friends there over the years
- UNODET – the UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies – a complete waste of time, but interesting to see what they think they are doing!

What seems years ago now, I was also involved in a couple of interesting projects that had relict sites, and actually still retained some useful information until they were closed down by our university:
- The ICT4D Collective’s Moodle environment at http://moodle-ict4d.rhul.ac.uk
- The ICT4D Elgg environment for higher education networking
“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one” (Benjamin Franklin)
It’s “Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety”

Thanks – glad to have that clarified. But it is in the power of the misquote. Who, famous, used the particular variant I cited?!
